Our Forest School

Meet Miss Kim

The fabulous Miss Kim from Little Tress Forest School runs our forest school sessions for both settings. St Mary’s Playgroup sessions run on a Monday & at Sandlings we have Forest School Fridays!

Kim is a qualified Level 3 Forest School Practitioner and has been working with children for 14 years.

“My passion lies in educating children outdoors through play. We embrace the outdoors throughout the year, utilizing what each season offers to teach care and respect for the environment. The children gain practical life skills such as tool use, fire lighting, and problem-solving, and are encouraged to take manageable risks within a safe and closely supervised setting.”

What is Forest School?

At Woodbridge Community Playgroups, our Forest School gives children the freedom to explore, discover and grow in the natural world. Spending regular time outdoors helps children build confidence, resilience and a real sense of wonder about the world around them.

Forest School is a child-led approach to learning that takes place in woodland or natural spaces. Through hands-on experiences — climbing, building, investigating, creating and problem-solving — children develop important life skills while having fun in a safe and nurturing environment.

We follow the recognised principles of Forest School and ensure our sessions complement the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), so outdoor learning enhances and supports your child’s overall development.

What makes our Forest School special?

Regular outdoor sessions
Forest School is a long-term experience, not a one-off activity. Children visit the same natural space throughout the year, helping them feel confident, comfortable and connected to their environment.

Child-led exploration
We follow children’s interests and natural curiosity. Our practitioners observe, support and gently guide learning, encouraging independence and creativity.

Safe, supported risk-taking
Whether it’s balancing on logs, climbing, or learning to use simple tools, children are given opportunities to take manageable risks. This builds resilience, problem-solving skills and healthy self-esteem.

Whole child development
Forest School supports children socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. Working together outdoors strengthens friendships, communication skills and confidence.

Sessions are led by a qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader and supported by a high adult-to-child ratio, ensuring every child feels safe, supported and included.

Forest School began in Scandinavia and has grown across the UK, supported by the Forest School Association, which promotes high standards and best practice in Forest School education.
