Our Hygge Approach

At Woodbridge Community Playgroups, we take inspiration from the Danish concept of hygge — creating a warm, calm and nurturing environment where children feel safe, relaxed and truly at home.

What hygge looks like in practice

  • Soft, cosy spaces designed to feel welcoming and homely

  • Calm routines that help children feel secure and settled

  • Natural materials, gentle lighting and uncluttered play areas

  • A focus on wellbeing, togetherness and kindness

  • Time to slow down, enjoy shared moments and build strong relationships

A hygge-inspired approach supports children’s emotional wellbeing, helping them to build confidence, feel valued and develop a positive love of learning from the very start.

In early years, Hugge is about focusing on the process and not the end product. Practitioners focus on the children’s current interests and allow them time to explore, talk & investigate.

We believe that when children feel calm, comfortable and cared for, they are free to explore, learn and thrive.
